How to Survive High School: The Official List of Rules

High school is not as scary as you may think or as you may have been told. Well, in some cases, it might be. But in all cases, make the best of your high school career by following this short and simple list of rules. If you have anymore tips, feel free to send them to kiwiaccessories@hotmail.com.

  1. You may feel like a mouse in a maze. Most high schools are very big so it might be hard to find all your classes without being 20 minutes late or sitting in the wrong geography class. The best thing to do is ask your teacher before leaving your class, where you might be able to find your next class or ask older kids in the hallway where to find your next class because likely, they've been going to the school for quite some time, so they pretty much know their way around.

  2. Smile - even though you're not on Candid Camera! A little smile goes a long way. People will find you more approachable and friendly when they always see a warm face.

  3. Follow the Golden Rule. What you want others to do unto you, you must likewise do unto them. Chances are, you wouldn't like someone spreading rumours about you or someone who finds personal satisfaction in slamming books out of your hands. Instead, you would like someone who was nice, friendly and courteous. Being that way will get you a lot of respect - and friends.

  4. To Speak or Not to Speak. Usually, the quiet ones do not get a lot of attention. It's good to speak your mind, but do not become known as the mouth of the school - unless you want your face in the yearbook as the winner of the Biggest Mouth Award.

  5. Meet New People. Joining clubs and teams are the best way to meet new people at school who share the same interests as you. Also, in grade nine, practically everyone is as lost and eager to make some friends as you are, so don't be afraid to go up to people and make small talk.

  6. You were born an original, don't die a copy. It is important to know what your goals, morals and principles are - essentially, who you are. You change for no one. Be yourself and do not conform to the ways of mindless drones.

  7. Don't procrastinate. Also, don't forget the real reason you go to school - to learn. So do your best to finish all your assignments on time so don't procrastinate. And this means a lot coming from someone who is a chronic procrastinator herself!

  8. Enjoy yourself! Before you know it, high school is over so make the most it. Don't be afraid to be silly. Try out for your school's idol show, join a fun and wacky club, plan a senior prank. Have fun so when you look back on those four years, you will be smiling fondly over great memories.
